Default Mail Account Folders
Every email account on MXroute comes with a set of default folders that are automatically created when you log in. These folders are recreated on each login, so even if you delete them, they will reappear the next time you connect.
Folders Created on Login
| Folder | Purpose | Subscribed by Default |
|---|---|---|
| INBOX | Your main inbox for incoming mail | Yes |
| Drafts | Stores draft messages | Yes |
| Sent | Stores copies of sent messages | Yes |
| Trash | Stores deleted messages | Yes |
| Junk | Stores messages flagged as spam | No |
What does "subscribed" mean?
IMAP supports the concept of folder subscriptions. Subscribed folders are the ones your email client will show by default. Most email clients only display subscribed folders, though some show all folders regardless.
The Junk folder is created automatically but is not subscribed by default. If your email client only shows subscribed folders, you may need to manually subscribe to Junk to see it. Most modern email clients handle this automatically.
Recognized Folder Aliases
Some email clients use different names for standard folders. The server recognizes these alternate names and maps them to the correct function:
| Alias | Maps To |
|---|---|
| spam or Spam | Junk |
| Sent Messages or Sent Items | Sent |
| Archive or Archives | Archive |
These aliases are not created automatically. They exist so that if your email client creates a folder with one of these names, the server correctly identifies its purpose.
Can I Delete These Folders?
The five default folders (INBOX, Drafts, Sent, Trash, Junk) cannot be permanently removed. If you delete any of them, they will be recreated the next time you log in via IMAP. This is by design to ensure your email client always has the standard folders it expects.
